North Carolina safety Trimane Goddard has been named to the 2008 Walter Camp All-America second team.
The Walter Camp team is the oldest All-America squad in the nation, now in its 119th season honoring players across the country. Goddard is the first Tar Heel to earn All-America honors since center Jason Brown in 2004.
Goddard is tied for the national lead with seven interceptions. He also has 48 tackles, 1.5 tackles for losses, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Twice he intercepted a pass on an opponent’s final drive to seal a win (Miami & Duke), and against Notre Dame his fumble recovery clinched Carolina’s victory.
For his on-field efforts, he was named to the All-ACC first team and a Thorpe Award semifinalist. Goddard’s seven interceptions equals the third-best single-season effort by a Tar Heel.
Goddard was also named to the Rivals.com All-America Third Team.
