Roach leads Catawba to victory
Brad Roach shone under the spotlight, throwing for one score and running for another to lead the No. 15 Catawba Indians to a 45-21 victory over the No. 23 Mars Hill Lions on Thursday.
The game at Shuford Stadium was broadcast on Fox Sports South and on CSTV.
Roach, a former standout at Williamston High School, wasn’t bothered by the big stage. The senior quarterback hit 17-of-23 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 18 yards and another score on five carries.
The win kept the Indians unbeaten at 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Mars Hill fell to 4-1, 0-1.
Roach set the tone early with a 54-yard touchdown strike in the first quarter.
The senior capped off a 21-point second quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run, coming with 36 seconds to play, to give the Indians a 28-0 lead.
For the season, Roach is 62-of-98 (63.2 percent) for 988 yards. He’s thrown eight touchdowns and five interceptions.
On the ground, Roach has run for 64 yards and three scores on 15 carries.
Roach and the Indians play host to Newberry College on Oct. 6.
